Can you match the render on my period home?

Yes. Matching existing render is the core of what we do. We replicate the original mix, texture and colour, and cut Ashlar lines by hand where the facade calls for it, so a repair or extension blends seamlessly into the original. Around seventy per cent of our work is Victorian-era restoration, so matching period finishes is everyday work for us.

Do you work on heritage-listed properties?

Yes. We have restored landmark heritage buildings across Sydney and regularly work on listed and conservation-area properties using period-correct materials and methods. We are happy to work alongside heritage architects, councils and builders to meet any conservation requirements your property has.

What is the difference between traditional and modern render?

Traditional cement and lime renders are mixed and applied by hand, breathe with older masonry, and can be tuned to match a period finish. Modern acrylic renders are faster and come in set colours but are not always right for an older building. We work in both and will recommend the finish that suits your property, not just the quickest one.

Can you repair or replicate decorative mouldings, cornices and ceiling roses?

Yes. We replicate decorative plaster in situ, reproducing corbels, cornices, ceiling roses and ornamental detail on the wall by hand to match the existing work. A single damaged section can be restored without replacing the whole piece.

Do you only do heritage work, or everyday rendering too?

Both. As well as heritage restoration, we render new and existing homes, repair and match damaged render, and finish fences, staircases and columns across the North Shore and greater Sydney. The same care goes into a single wall as a full heritage facade.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Lane Cove North and work right across greater Sydney, with a strong presence on the Lower North Shore and the Inner West. For significant heritage projects we travel interstate when required.

How do quotes work?

We come out, look at the job properly, and talk through the options before giving you a written, itemised quote. We are specialists rather than the cheapest, so the quote reflects a proper consultation, not just a number. Call Pete on 0414 821 777 to arrange a time.

How long will my job take?

It depends on the size and condition of the surface. We give you a realistic timeframe with your written quote and keep you updated as the work goes. Most domestic jobs run to a few days, larger heritage facades to a few weeks.

Do you provide written quotes?

Yes. Every quote is in writing and itemised, so you know exactly what is included before any work starts. If the scope changes on site, we agree the change with you first.

How long has J&J been rendering and plastering?

Since 1997. The business was founded by Joe and Justina, and has been run by Pete Bamford since Joe handed over the trade. Nearly three decades of traditional rendering and plastering across Sydney.
